What are the odds I can lateral to big law policyholder practice coming from a small firm doing carrier side ins coverage work? I do zero litigation work but many past associates have made this jump and I’m wondering how common it is.

Not high. You’d really have to network and get to know people at that big law firm before. You could also get lucky, if an office had some associates leave and they need urgent help, but I don’t think that resume would be appealing in a normal market

Difficult but possible. I would recommend getting some litigation experience. Big law policyholder practices make their money on litigating long-tail, D&O, etc. claims, where they have lots of documents to review, deps to take. and issues to research and brief. Having litigation + coverage makes you a more attractive candidate.

Plus, you will need to network hard.

Good luck.

I don’t think it would be hard since insurance recovery attorneys are really in demand but conflicts could be an issue.
