What do you think is a reasonable time to respond to an email? 24-48 business days? It seems like staff expects an immediate response to email requests but our staff is so slammed right now there is no way…. We are lucky if we are even able to get to our emails during our shift!

I taught undergraduates when I was in graduate school and my rule of thumb was always 24 hours (or 48 on the weekends). I don't think that anyone can be so mad at you if you respond within 24 hours.. and I think that's a perfectly acceptable time frame

I see some people add a message in their signature area will try to respond within 24 hours

Wtf! That's terrible

Well, I do agree waiting a few hours or even the whole business days is reasonable to respond to emails unless it’s a true emergency and that needs to be addressed right away. However, my manager doesn’t believe in that and when she sends an email, she expects a response immediately no matter what I’m doing or how Really not that urgent. Her email is so I agree with you but that’s not how my world works.

I went to a T14 law school, got great grades and glowing recommendations, and wrote (what I thought was) a great writing sample. But I got rejected from all 70 federal clerkships I applied to. The only thing I can think of is: I took a non traditional route after law school and did a 2 year public interest fellowship in a niche field of administrative law. The rejection gave me a lot of self hatred. I still really want to clerk. Any advice? What is wrong with me? I feel like a failure.
