Well for starters, DOGE is not a real agency and will only be able to offer recommendations. Ultimately, the OMB, OPM, and Congress will decide where to pluck the feathers of the federal gov’s workforce.
Secondly, though some change is good and necessary, changing for the sake of change to look like the private sector is not the way to go. The federal government can be more efficient in many things - however, such solutions usually requires approval from Congress -and we all know Congress is anything but effective at making fast, fruitful changes.
Last point, what all of this DOGE rhetoric will do is piss off federal employees who are essential at making this government work. And with 30% of fed employees eligible for retirement, the brain drain could be immense if they choose to bolt. We will not be able to train and acclimate new federal employees fast enough and that will hurt. For the rest of us left (Gen As, millennials and gen x’ers), some will either stay and grow our careers or realize that we could make 2x-3x more with our experience in the private market. Time will ultimately tell.
It should look like jobs should held as advancement with right hight of work and another of things at travel were they can take family on short trips and lower to run and next three management and people to like as formers and workers to help along
