This was last school year, but I had a student who was struggling with a fraction lesson. No matter how hard they tried, they just could not grasp the concept. I'm talking simple like identifying the parts of a whole. Had to go out of the box a bit and use different terminology with them. We taught them that the line was "out of" and that helped. After working with them on that skill and terminology for a week, one day you could just see the lightbulb in their eyes turn on and it clicked. It's a little thing, but such a rewarding thing to see that happen.

It isn't one student or moment, but as a reading interventionist we do monthly progress monitoring and one of my kiddos really outdid her self on her growth chart!

One of my eighth graders totally surprised me last grading period. Since he was in 6th grade, the student has been very sloppy, never totally finished assignments. Their final project in my class was to make a 5-Year Vision Board. Students had the choice of digital or poster board. The student chose the poster board. For 3 days, he decorated, added pictures, created borders, and very neatly wrote his goals. I was so impressed and had to give him some bonus points. I really bragged on the project.
