What would you do post-maternity leave? Continue working as a big law associate and move away from family and friends (due to RTO) or take a counsel position at a small local firm in a LCOL area. Six figure pay cut, same billable hour requirement, hybrid with no set in office days. I am struggling with the decision as I love my job and always wanted to make partner but my spouse wants to stay near friends and family. Working remote at my big law job is not an option.

Keep the big law job. A 6 figure pay cut to have the same high billable hour requirement is insane.

Or lateral to a big law firm that will let you work remotely. Or at least ask your firm if you can work remotely. A lot of firms have no remote policy but make exceptions

All good ideas, but good to be careful, trying to be remote at a firm with RTO could affect the partnership process if that’s what she really wants

That is tough. If it wasn’t such a big pay cut, or if there was an additional benefit to the small firm like fewer hours, I would say stay close to friends and family. But the difference in pay helps bridge the gap left by the loss of a close village, and you still love your job. So I’d say stay at the BigLaw job.

Oh man this sounds so rough. Can you keep looking for a job? Being away from friends and family after mat leave is so hard but that pay cut for the same hours… maybe you can take the counsel position and try to find even a midsize law firm that offers remote (they exist!).

If the friends/family are providing free and reliable childcare stay. If they are not, MOVE, you can afford to pay for support.

I would stay near family. They are going to be even more important as your kid grows up.

Not totally sure your counsel offer is the best one though, since the hour requirement is the same. Maybe keep looking in the area?

Hello, not sure if I should move this to the Referral Bowl or here is good.
I have multiple years of working in Sysadmin/Tier 2-3 roles. Still experience trouble getting another SysAdmin role since I lost mine. I live in a state with plenty of work if sec-cleared. I cant get one.

Anyone work somewhere that could use an exceptional sysadmin, and that understands people aren't their past mistakes. Stuck back on helpdesk & want back to sysadmin
