Love that! The best advice I’ve received was to always focus on impact over perfection. Non-profit work is messy, but it’s about making a difference, even if things aren’t always flawless. It’s a great reminder to stay grounded in the mission.

I worked with someone years ago who would caution against what he termed "idiot compassion." The metaphor he would use is someone in a canoe trying to pull a struggling person out of the water. You have to be careful not to tip the canoe over while doing it. If people were throwing themselves too much into the work he'd warn against idiot compassion and tipping your canoe over. Always stuck with me.
