Dress code for staff or students. It seems in many places, the staff have a more stringent dress code than the students 😞
Rising Star
Our dress code is a joke, inconsistent, varies per student, and usually not supported by admin.
Both of our feeder schools have a "uniform". It's pretty lax but modest and inexpensive. Basically just stricter dress code than the general district one. At my kid's school (one of the feeders) they can wear blue, black, or khaki pants (including jeans), shorts, or skirts (stupid fingertip length requirement), and either a blue or white polo, a military shirt, a college shirt, a spirit shirt for either their school or mine (although I did see a kid in another high school's shirt). No hoodies whatsoever. Shoes must have a back.
My school we "follow" the district dress code but generally follow the "no boobs, bellies, or butts showing" idea but we're pretty lenient on belly. For boys and girls, we don't want to see what's under your pants. Generally, if they're in class, we don't stress too much.
Teachers can wear "business" casual (which just means no blue jeans and modest tops). At our school we can wear blue jeans on Wednesday with college shirt and Friday with spirit shirt. Most of us have figured out that admin doesn't care if we wear black jeans. Idk why.
All levels of dress code past elementary students can have whatever hair color they want.

We had school uniforms in Tennessee, and I love it as a parent and as a teacher.
I’ve been teaching 32 years in the same district and have never been told what to wear or not wear. Some days I wear my coaching gear all day, some days are dresses with sandals or heels, other days (most days) jeans or capris w t-shirts, sweatshirts or blouses, etc.. I wear sandals, slip ons, tennis shoes, running shoes, vans, and so on.

Our school is more business casual, but our PE teachers wear shorts and tennis shoes most of the year
No dress code except for no clothing that promotes alcohol, drugs, violence, or hate. ( t- shirts with pictures or words that could be offensive). We have teachers in sweats snd sneakers all the way up to suits and heels. Kids can wear whatever. The justification is that elementary kids don’t buy their own clothes. Parents choose what their kids wear. We have kids in pj’s, athletic wear, jeans, and some who dress up a bit. We have some kids who show up in costumes- like princess dresses snd those superhero one piece costumes. It really is relaxed here.
Dress code is A LOT different from when I was in school compared to now.
Students are allowed to pretty much wear whatever they want.
I have several students everyday wearing crop tops that show their stomach completely.
Wearing spaghetti strap tank tops.
The one that concerns me the most is the cheerleading outfits!
The girls butt cheeks are literally hanging out of their skirts.
I have yet to see a student get sent to the office or asked to change throughout the day.
I am all about body positivity but in my professional opinion I don't believe that students should be allowed to wear this type of clothing at school..
As for teachers, I think it's pretty basic of us to wear office style clothing.
Friday's are usually more laid back where I see most of us in school themed merch or sweatpants/jeans.
Our dress code is very much on the conservative end too, and we're not allowed to wear capris or sandals to school. Casual Fridays are great, but still pretty modest—jeans and a school spirit shirt or something similar.
Our dress code is pretty relaxed, business casual most days, but definitely more laid-back on Fridays! Some teachers wear jeans with a nice top, and in warmer months, I’ve seen sandals too. It’s interesting how much it varies between schools! Did the vibe at your son’s school seem more comfortable?
We have a dress code, but no one follows it. The elementary school my husband works for have uniforms.
We hae a pretty relaxed dresscode as well which is one of the reasons I ended up taking this job to be honest with you.
Teachers wear jeans every day; some still may wear a dress or skirt once or twice per week, but casual wear is definitely the norm. We are actually being told to have footwear that will allow us the flexibility to handle emergencies or situations that require moving quickly: hence, running shoes.
I guess I don’t see the problem with sandals half our kids wear crocs and Capri shorts are fine. Do your school. A lot of kids wear shorts we don’t allow crop tops nothing see-through spaghetti straps or out you have to have sleeves nothing vulgar on your shirt not too many holes in inappropriate places, you know as long as everything is covered up and stuff we’re fine, but yeah sandals and crocs apparently
