The hiring manager was very straight forward with me that I was his top candidate and I was told all other interviews were very positive incl CMO. What is a good salary range for a Principal UX Designer with 15+ years of experience working in either Finance, Tech or Media industry in NYC?

Im currently going through industry change.
Im a pastry cook with 4yrs experience and the average salary start for this position is now at $22/hr here in vegas, especially in the strip. But cooking/baking is not my passion. So im changing into veterinary medicine and im seeing that the starting rate for a vet tech is around $16-18. Why is that?? Why are people in the vet med industry being paid so low?? Something needs to change. Labor of love aint enough for the people in this job.
