Work needs to be clearly presented. Large attractive visuals. The work needs to be well explained but in a concise way. You need to make your work look “expensive” in whatever way possible. The website needs to be easy to navigate, not confusing, everything needs to be easy to find, needs to work on mobile as well as screens of any size and look equally good in all formats. The website needs to look good, but so much as to compete with the work or distract from it.
"You need to make your work look 'expensive'" is such a great way to put it.
About Me section is key. Could not overstate this more. Your work got you in the door and your link sent to the powers that be. Your About Me page is an opportunity to sell yourself. (You especially art directors - don’t leave it blank.) What’s your vibe? Your personality? Your interests? Your style? If all books are equal (and I’d say most are at each level) - your About Me section can separate you from the rest. Tell a story, a joke, an embarrassing moment. Something that describes you and uniquely makes you — you. It’s the first thing I click on. A recruiter sends me your book. Your About Me section will let me know if I want to work with you before the interview.
Oh and don’t come off as an ahole. That’s not unique. That’s dumb.

Being friends with the ECD, GCD or recruiter.
Probably the right type of work for the clients an agency has.
I cannot stress enough how important having a clean, easy to navigate, well laid out site with good thumbnails and a resumé/bio page is.
