I don’t know that I’d say unbelievable, more like incredible. We were extracting from a mission at night in Iraq via UH-60. It was about an hour flight and most of the way we were skirting a thunderstorm. Something about the vast desert at night with these towering thunderstorms was just awe inspiring.

On deck at sea in the Pacific and I watched an owl fly straight through the prop of an E-2 Hawkeye. An owl. At sea. No idea where it came from.

How far out at sea? I wonder if a lot of these UFO videos about how there’s no “known engine” are just birds.

Since we're doing animal theme...
I once got told to walk around a golf course at night to try and find a tiger.

I saw a fuel ballast pump fail on a B1B. All of the fuel went to the back of the plane, which sent the front of the plane 15feet in the air.

Saw a baby seal climb up into the well deck and hang out with us for about 20 minutes before the bos’ns decided to spray it with a hose to get it out. It just wanted to chill for a bit

Someone smoke a cigarette right before doing the run portion of the PT test. Also, someone else claiming they smoked before doing their workouts because it raised their heart rate up so that was good.

Had an old crusty E7 during my OBC time grading PT tests. The course was a 1 mile lap. This guy smoked right up until it was time to start the run. Ran 1 lap, lit up, ran the second lap, and came in below 14 minutes for the 2 miles. He ran with the new LTs for fun and to help with pace.

Ramadi: 60mm mortar exploded in between the feet of our battalion Ops Chief. Homeboy got rocked, and all he had were scrapes from being sent slightly airborne and falling back on concrete. Ol boy was in pt gear on his way to the shower.

Early 2000s Iraq was a special time and place. I was in Rawah, our cook caught a mortar the first day on deck - mortar blew back out the same way it came in, low order detonation. Lucky dude.

We got the OK to light up a hospital with HE rounds in Baghdad after taking rpg fire from it. Damn that was an awesome site to see a platoon of M1 turn and do a control fire 🙂

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

Anyone here downshift in life post service?

Feel like I've been going full bore for the past decade and literally have no problem continuing the trend. Like I could just keep marking milestones and grinding or whatever until I die.

Wondering when if anyone else felt similar and decided to pull back and do something more relaxing. What was the catalyst, what are you doing, and are you enjoying it?

I'd considered taking up a 9-5 somewhere but not sure if thatd wear off fast.

I am a traditional reservist so I never really used military benefits before, but could use advice here.

I am currently renting and my lease is not up until October 2021, however I found a good deal on a home and scheduled to close in June 2021.

My landlord will not work with me to end the lease early, so it looks like I will have to double up on rent and mortgage through the summer.

If I went on active duty orders, can I use those orders to break my lease early without penalty?
