My wife. I always realise it when I have already reached the holidays destination
I made packing cards (think flash cards) after years of using a good list. Step 1) Start with all the cards in/by your bag. Don’t remove a card until you’ve actually put that item in the bag! This keeps you from scanning down your list in a hurry without actually putting something in the bag or checking it off. Step 2) While you’re on the trip take note of anything you wish you had with you but don’t. Email a reminder to make a new card for that item when you return.
My latest addition to the cards is paper towels. We always buy a roll at our destination. Then we try to carry it around and it’s massive to squeeze into a personal item and we don’t use it all. Instead I will pack some paper towels flat or Swedish dish cloths in a plastic bag.
A final trick is to scan your bed, valet bar, or luggage rack - wherever you did your packing - as you leave home to make sure you aren’t leaving anything behind that you laid out but didn’t put in your bag.
Check the packing list before leaving and tick items off as you pack
I have a static packing list I consult for every trip
Honestly? Chargers. I bring the wrong cord or forget the adapter entirely. Now I keep a “travel tech bag” packed at all times. Best decision I’ve made to reduce pre-trip stress.
