I’m in the phase of learning how to score and the biggest mind shift for me is being disciplined with what club I use - similar to your flop for chip shot example. For me it’s realizing that a bad drive is worse than a decent mid iron. Bad shots tend to compound whereas short shots are far less punishing.
Exactly! Check out Golf Sidekick on YouTube. The channel focuses on winning the mental game by taking and setting up stress-free shots.
Wow! Congrats! Alot of its smart play to cut down few shots off your score. Better yet, if you have a great short gane you can save more
Focusing on short game was definitely a huge part of that progress! Spent about 75% of my range time on the short game area and putting green. Also simplified big time, focusing on fewer shot types but more consistent results. I can't think of many times where I've actually needed a high spinny lob shot but there's been hundreds of times where I thought I did and bladed it clear across the green when I could have chipped it to within 6ft.
A new mental thought I’m working on is every hole is a par 3 after the drive. Sometimes I get too focused on on “I need to par” before I tee off. Finding it’s just a smoother mental approach for me
Sounds similar to lyin' 0. Score your tee shot but don't count it mentally. Play a par 4 as a par 4 from wherever your tee shot lands. Go for pars and birdies when you can SAFELY do so but treating bogeys as a good score is the easiest way to avoid doubles or worse.
