If you’re still dabbling in golf (like once a month or less), I would recommend a beginner set from Amazon or Dicks Sporting Goods like the Strata or Top Flite sets. If you’re set on getting back in the game for good, then I highly recommend you check out Callaway preowned - great clubs at a great price. You’re much better off spending the money on lessons than on expensive clubs. https://youtu.be/usKjFd72Yso
I used the driver that came with the set for ~1-1.5 years.
There are secondhand websites that could save you some money
If you’re in the UK, have a look at Golfbidder, a great second hand store.
In terms of clubs, anything from the major brands over the last 5 years will be fine. If you check out Peter finch and Rick shields golfbidder golf challenge on YouTube , you’ll see that even the old clubs they use can perform pretty well
Great site!
I recommend taking a lesson and then going to a PGA store or Golf Galaxy to get fitted. They will show you lots of options that work for your game.
This. Get fitted. You’d be amazed at how large a difference small tweaks can make. I got fitted two years ago and learned I have a steep swing; they increased the lie angle of my irons by 1 degreee to compensate. I hit everything so much more flush now, and have taken at least 5 strokes off my score.
Can’t go wrong with Taylormade driver and woods, and Calloway or Ping Irons
Totally personal preference. I found that Taylormade driver/ woods work best for me. I’ve hit others but just hit TM the best.
Same logic for irons, wedges, and putter even. I have mizuno irons, Cleveland wedges, and an old Scotty C putter my friend gave me. It’s literally 20+ years old and I’m only 25. Lol
I recommend going to a Golf Galaxy and spend hours trying everything. Explain to the sales rep when you’re there to do and they’ll give you a hitting net and all the space you need.
Callaway , mizuno, ping, Taylor made basically all the known names
Not true, you can find starter sets. Pretty sure TM still has some version of the RBZ sets. Can get a full set for ~1k or less
Costco's Callaway set is decent, cost around 500 bucks
Call me crazy - I have a set of forged Maltby irons that strike really well for $299.
Where do you find those? I ended up with started kit from Golf Galaxy and pretty happy.
Nice! Enjoy the new sticks.
$359 oops. They were $299 when I got them.

If you're looking for a decent set for less money, Wilson makes some good starter clubs. I hear good things about their pro staff clubs also (their higher end set).
