Bowl Leader
In some cases, there is an internal applicant who is getting the offer. They are in the obvious position to interview first. If they are chosen, companies are still obligated to post the job externally. Some may even have to interview external candidates who have a slim chance of getting the job.

In most cases - true and understandable. With my last hire, I did choose the external candidate over the internal ones.
I get the feeling those are probably ghost jobs. Otherwise, what's the point of posting when they already have that many applicants? Not that there's much of a point (that I can see) to posting a ghost job either, but that'd make a bit more sense.
I don't see the point of posting/reposting a ghost job either. Some of the postings are from big companies, so I don't see why they would bother posting a job that doesn't exist.
It’s not the companies!!! It’s their AI algorithms!! We now have to figure out what the AI wants lol- isn’t that nice!!!
IMO, the company is being unnecessarily picky, or they're posting performatively -- the position is likely already filled, but the company keeps posting because the candidate they took on is still in their probationary period.

It feels picky, but honestly the volume is so wild right now that recruiters are drowning too. I try not to read reposts as a reflection of my own odds. Do you think it’s a market issue or a company issue when you see it happen?
I understand the volume of applicants is crazy right now. However, I know that if a company gets 100 applicants, statistically there will at least be some that are highly qualified for the position. There is no reason to keep posting the job if you find qualified applicants. For this reason, it feels like they are being overly picky because it's an employer's market right now. I think it comes down to how the company's hiring team chooses to conduct itself and the process they decide to take.
