Unfortunately, you don’t tell the difference. I am much older than you and do have work experience, yet I’m still asking the same question. There are some things to look for in those postings, but there is no way to be sure.
For example, if a position has been open for too long, it is most likely a ghost job. The job itself may require common skills, common sense, and maybe some professional experience, but nothing highly specialized. They are not looking for an astrophysicist specializing in red giants, so the only reason they are still “looking” for that lab technician is because they are not actually looking for one.
So I usually skip all postings that have been up for more than a week or two. They either already found someone and are just going through the process, or they never intended to hire in the first place.
Why they do that? I have no idea. None of the explanations I’ve heard actually make much sense.
