Create the urgency if you are in the later stages of the interview elsewhere. I will be specific about the timeline, not so much with the names. I do like doing this just to show I’m a decent candidate. Does anyone feel like, with the shift in the job market, there should be a different strategy?

I think being honest but strategic about timing is probably the best move in today’s market.
That can be complicated and it's probably best to go with your instincts in the moment. I wouldn't want to say any competitor's names, just because I'm not sure that would be helpful. Though in some circumstances you might boost yourself by letting it be known that the competition is interested in you. The one thing I'd avoid is creating the impression that you have no other options at the moment, that seems like it would create a bad impression.

I get that, sometimes I just dodge specifics and say I’m exploring a couple options. It keeps things professional but still shows interest.
I wouldn't focus on creating urgency. With recruiters, they would prefer a sure thing to pass along because it makes them look better. Focus on being available rather than like you're treating the job as an option.

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess it’s better to keep it professional and show genuine interest rather than try to play the ‘in demand’ card.
