When I was a new mom, I read a lot of advice saying you shouldn’t share you had kids in the interview process… it made you less desirable as a new hire. I’ve been in the industry for almost 20 years now and I feel it’s important to share I’m a parent up front. If an employer doesn’t want me because I’m a parent, I definitely don’t want to work there. At my level, I feel many candidates would have kids anyways. What does this group think?

Statistically, 85%+ of adults over 40 in the U.S. are parents, so it shouldn’t come as a huge shock to whoever is interviewing you. Maybe that advice is more about having very young kids, being the primary caregiver, or having limited support at home. But at 20 years into your career, being a parent is more the rule than the exception.

Interesting point as I’ve wondered the same. Whether I fully agree with this take or not deep at heart, I’m not going to disclose it unless it comes up really naturally in conversation and it feels right to mention. I would be hesitant to mention his age (1) however.

Compliance question here, I have always thought of the SALT deduction on the fed return as a perm item & have treated as such in such sch M-3. I see that some people put it as a temp on sch M-3. What is the justification for treating it as a temp on the M-3. You don’t set up a deferred on the def RF for the state tax deduct & it is also a rate impacting item (I know that some temps can be rate impacting). But this all leaves me to side with perm. Does anyone know the logic behind temp treatment?

It’s hard to trust the partners/leadership when they want us to return to office as being better when we increase offshoring? Also, the pressure on billable hours when all that really matters is how much our fixed labor costs vs. how much we can bill (which is usually fixed fee or at least a range) and the fixed labor costs of offshoring is significantly cheaper so the hours don’t matter. Am I mistaken by this viewpoint?
