In a perfect world, companies would hire based on experience. But as we all well know, it's really hard to gain experience without having a college degree. It's a chicken and egg situation. Until this requirement is relaxed across the board (which is unlikely to happen), a degree is most likely going to be necessary.
That's so true. You come out of uni and no one wants you because you don't have the experience. They magically want both straight away.
Once you get to a point, the only thing that matters is your experience. I have seen people with more exprience get hired over me and I have Doctorate. I really do think real-world experience holds more value.
Oh wow! To have a doctorate you must really know your stuff and shows hard work a dedication. Things happen for a reason, you just wernt meant to work there 😉

I’ve personally found that having a degree is amazing and a great achievement but dependant on the type this can be a “textbook degree” as I like to call it. So you have learnt your knowledge based on textbook examples and not from real life examples. It’s so eye opening to have those real life experiences that you can learn from.
I think it depends on the role. For some jobs, hands-on experience shows more than any degree can. I would rather work with someone who has actually solved real problems than someone with just theoretical knowledge.
