More insights: I don't have prior management work experience. I'm in an MBA program to get my Master's. I'm being retaliated at work because I applied for a different position within my current company. They denied me of a big raise citing that I'd be leaving anyway (which is absurd because I don't have an offer for that position yet). So, I need to leave my current company because of the retaliation. It wasn't the first time they denied me of a raise for reasons unrelated to work performance.
About the job offers: company A kind of promised they would work with me towards management. Company B will train me to be a manager. They're even giving me the title Manager.
1. Will you use the tuition assistance? (If not, then don't consider it in your decision)
2. Is 5 days PTO for the next year acceptable?
3. Do you want to be a manager?
If 2 & 3 are yes, then Offer B. If you're not sure you want to be a manager, then think about that specific point until you can decide yes or no.
1. I'm currently using the tuition assistance for my MBA. I'll be using it for the next 2 years.
2. I have a commitment later this year that I'll be overseas for 2-3 weeks. I can take the unpaid time off route for this commitment if it's allowed (company B).
3. I do want to be a manager. Company B knows that at this point I'm not up for the position. So they included in my offer that I wouldn't be managing people now. I'll still do associate work under the Manager title. I think they'll bring me up to speed at least in the first 6 months or so. They did ask me in the interview how long it would take me to be fluent in my role. Company A made promises that they would groom me for management. The title is called Scientist 3 at company A.
I’d really question the type of company that would offer a new employee only 5 days off for the rest of the year.
