When people say “you can do anything with a CPA,” do they actually mean it? Because I’ve been job hunting for three months, and all I’m getting are interviews for GL accountant or FP&A roles. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful to even get responses. But I didn’t grind through busy seasons just to copy-paste journal entries forever. I’m craving something totally different. What are the real left-field moves you’ve seen people make with a CPA that actually worked out?

I pivoted into ESG and sustainability reporting, which wasn’t even on my radar until I met someone in that space. Your CPA gives you credibility, but you have to connect the dots.

Bit of a niche topic: I’ve been in TS/SCI processing for a Science/Tech/Weapons analyst position with the CIA for 3 yrs since I finished grad school in chemistry, but CIA positions are sort of set it and forget it since they can take so long. I’ve since been focused on a Patent Attorney track and am with a firm that will support me taking the patent bar/law school. If I get through processing and go to the CIA for some time, do you think would I be accepted back into patent law later on?

It's been a challenging year for me, including a rejection from GSAP. This week, I got into my top choice MBA program - and an M7 to boot! Just goes to show that sometimes Deloitte's decisions can be misaligned to the greater world.
I hope that Deloitte gives me the chance to be a good brand ambassador - but at the point, it's up to the firm if I even consider coming back :)
