Commonly, we have 2 candidates in the final stages, but sometimes it’s 1, sometimes 3. At that point, skills and experience are not much of a question. We start looking at the team and culture fit more.

We will often do a more cultural interview with the whole team when it comes down to two really close candidates. We will encourage the team to focus on personality and communication style rather than skills and experience.

Does the entire team, including peers/lower get a say in the decision?
Final rounds have anywhere from 2 to 4 candidates. Usually the final decision goes to the department head. All things being equal we give the offer to the person willing to work for less.
