I think its better to help them. It shows professionalism. If you are too cold they may take another offer

I'll try to offer a little encouragement. Most of my interviewees are young and inexperienced, and I know that causes a lot of interview stress. If I'm able to alleviate that anxiety at all, I'm happy to.

I actually think it's better to be quiet and let them process through their answer. I guess if it really gets bad and they are frozen, I would step in. But sometimes people just need a minute, and I think helping often = interrupting

Context can change my answer here, but sometimes I will offer to reword it or clarify. It’s been quite a while since I’ve been in the position to interview anyone, though. Guess it would also depend a lot on the position. Something entry-level, yeah, I can’t be super tough on them. Something higher up, ehh, again probably would depend on the question.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

Hi all. I am trying to determine if I am being compensated fairly. I am a tax manager (about to start my second year as manager) and have been with EY since staff 1. I was promoted to manager in June 2020 (during covid) and received a 7.5% raise. The class above me has mentioned they received much higher raises during their promotion years. My base salary is now approx. 97K. Any insights would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Offering advice to job seekers who go around recruiters and message hiring teams, execs, etc. You are putting the Recruiters job in danger. If a Recruiter declines you or doesn’t choose to reach out, it is because the hiring team declined you, or you don’t have the experience. You will most likely not be considered for future roles because of this. When I see people giving advice to reach outside the Recruiter, it’s bad advice. Very rare is this a good idea.

Anyone available to review my resume/guide me through this job search? I’ve been applying places for the past 6 months and am not getting responses. Unemployment has run out and I’m starting to crumble under the pressure of bills.
