After working 25-30 years yes.
This is top 1% compensation. VP level and above, or CHRO.
You *can* make 200k+ a year, but definitely not out of school and not without 10 years of work experience minimum. You also need to be exceptional at what you do in HR.
You were misled, maybe 1% of the jobs pay that. Honestly Universities should be pushing students to other professions. HR is oversaturated with candidates looking for work which pushes down the compensation scale. Look at LinkedIn, a job will be posted for a couple of hours and have hundreds of candidates. No need to pay top dollar, a ton of demand for very little supply.
A ton of demand for a limited supply of roles is how I read it, Microsoft
Fidelity you’ll make $200k+ as a Director. $300k+ as a VP.
In college, you should have followed up with another question. At what level does one in HR make over $200k? Typically, how many years? Also what certs are needed? Always ask follow questions. 😁
11 years out of school. Director level. Was at $193k base + bonus (slightly over $200k with 401k match. Underpaid for a director, overpaid for my age. Got lucky with early promotes. Just made a switch and they bumped me to $240k total comp.
What college?
