I’m not taking the fork deal. But I have toyed with the idea of going back to a firm. I only started a few months ago so I have a loooong way to go until my probationary period is up, and as much as I love the work and the mission at my agency, putting up with all of this uncertainty for half the pay and 5 day RTO seems like a raw deal.

The DC Legal market is flooded with attorneys right now. I had an interview and it felt like I was on a dating app. Was literally told “under normal circumstances, we would’ve hired you by now, but there are so many feds applying.” I’m trying to leave, but I wonder how long it will take…

I got an offer three weeks ago and accepted but don’t have a start date yet. To say I’m nervous is an understatement

I am ineligible for the fork deal, but I have been networking and sending out my resume.

I work in National Security. Nevertheless, I still receive every fork email, probably because it's more efficient to send it to everyone rather than figure out who should receive it.

I can’t take the fork deal and still get a new job because I’m in govcon and you can’t litigate against the government while on admin leave. So I’m just leaving

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

Does anyone feel like they’re selling themselves short by working in government? I graduated from a regional law school in 2018 and clerked for 2 years before moving into a GS-13 agency counsel role in DC back in October 2020. I love the work, and I love the work-life balance even more (I rarely work more than 45 hours per week, and almost never on the weekends). I’m 29, no kids, and no real responsibilities outside my student loans. (Continued below)…

The posting says due to the high number of applicants do not follow up, you will be contacted if chosen for an interview.
How much will it hurt me to email and explain that I will be unavailable from 9/5 to 9/16 but I am extremely interested and don’t want to miss hearing from them if I have a chance for the position?
