Oh wow.. what company does this? I’m thinking this might be a high fashion company. That’s a bit ridiculous if they have people buying super expensive clothes just to work for them. Luckily, my company doesn’t have a uniform for us to wear but we do have a dress code.
We all get work shirts with the company logo. We have to buy our own pants and shoes, but the only rule on those is that they're black. No one cares if they're from Amazon or Saks.
I’ve never had a job that provided a uniform or clothing allowance. It’s always drove me crazy. I wish there was something we could do about it.
All the retail places i worked years ago, supplied work pants and shirts. A company should be able to afford outfits for their workers, or they are being cheap.
Yep, my company does. We get a two shirts, two pants, a belt and a pair of boots load out during our first shift, and then the employee discount is pretty sweet as well. We also get an annual load out for every year we continue working there.

I agree that the company should front the costs, at least for the first week or few outfits, if they have strict requirements

I always thought it was unfair when they insisted on staff being “fashionable”. That was always code for “you work in a luxury retail store, you need to look like you shop here as well”. It always seemed like an unrealistic expectation of the staff.
