Splint at night really helpful — they make special soft ones for sleeping you can get at CVS or Amazon. When its really bad I’ll use a splint during the day too; it helps keep your wrist straight while typing so you can’t forget.
I ended up going to PT and they gave me stretches (Like make a tight fist and then open all the way ten times, spread your fingers apart and put them together ten times, etc) — you can probably find good ones online.
If you can, take breaks when the pain is bad. Pushing through it is what can make the damage permanent
Wearing a wrist splint at night helps me when I feel the pain getting worse. I know you said you're not interested in the surgery route (nor am I while it's manageable), but I have a friend who is a hand surgeon who has told me it is a very simple surgery. Otherwise, I'm also interested in hearing others' techniques.
Chiropractor, acupuncture, cupping, and making sure your elbow is in line with your wrist while typing.

Wow, something as simple as making sure elbow is in line w wrist while typing isn’t something I ever deliberately thought of
I actually found that all the ergonomic shit made things worse. I went to a basic, mechanical keyboard and a smaller, non-ergonomic mouse and it’s been a huge improvement.
Also strength training helps a lot.

I have a friend who got the surgery too, and she said the same thing about the procedure being easy, simple, and fast. She was a nurse in the baby dept, where she had to carry a lot of babies at the time. After surgery, she moved depts. and doesn’t feel pain as she once did—she feels normal.
My concern w surgery is that it’s unnatural, and more importantly, considering that I will still be on electronics, the symptoms may come back.
Pro
No, I agree, working on a computer, or rather being on a computer all day, is unnatural.
However, just like in running, knowing that if I run, I’ll likely wear out my joints or knees. I can train to prevent damage. So, w that said, only bc I get injured doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to submit to surgery. I’d rather train my muscles for the better.
Occupational therapy. The stretching, strength training, etc will help immensely.
