Why do we feel so guilty taking off of work? My friend sprained her both her ankle and was feeling away because she wanted to work. I always wonder if it’s an American thing.

I'm American and never feel bad taking time off. I work way too hard when I am there to feel guilty about using my PTO. I understand why some people struggle with this and feel like they're letting their team down, but I wish they'd realize they aren't. And if things really do go haywire because they need a day off, it isn't their fault - it's management's for not staffing appropriately.

I have lived in 4 different countries. Canada, the US, the UK, and Ireland. Nowhere even came close to the work-obsession we are conditioned to have in the US. Canada could improve for sure, but you are still somewhat treated as a human. Europe is so different. You work to live, not live to work. At a lot of companies, working sick or injured would not be a badge of honor. It would be weird and seriously frowned upon.

Definitely an american thing and also a woman thing. We’ve been programmed to work ourselves to the bone not only at home but at work.

I agree. I also feel as women we shouldn’t be working as hard as we do. Our bodies are physically not equipped to do so naturally. It’s a hard program to break free from because sometimes I feel worthless when I’m not working.

I try not to feel guilty. I used to don’t get me wrong. However, people at my job take off all the time and pretend to be sick. So when I have a legitimate reason to need the day off, I don’t let myself feel bad about it.

I used to feel that way but I don't anymore. I learned a long time ago these jobs don't care about us. They will fire us in a hot second if they have to.

I am a traditional reservist so I never really used military benefits before, but could use advice here.

I am currently renting and my lease is not up until October 2021, however I found a good deal on a home and scheduled to close in June 2021.

My landlord will not work with me to end the lease early, so it looks like I will have to double up on rent and mortgage through the summer.

If I went on active duty orders, can I use those orders to break my lease early without penalty?
