It’s easy to be in office politics when you’re not actually doing any work.
Just a couple weeks ago that person on my team was let go. It had been months of them not doing the work, making more work for others, just bringing everyone down. I know a lot of places do keep those people on forever, so it's a bit of a success story here. I really think a lot of companies just want to avoid the hassle of letting somebody go.

Yeah it definitely seems that way but it's so demoralising!
Stuff like that just happens. It seems like every organization will have that one person who's able to just skate by on being personable enough to never really offend anyone who matters. People like that are usually regarded by management as being harmless, but they can actually gum up the works and get in the way of more productive people. But yeah, somehow they're just protected and their skill at office politics makes them invulnerable.

It's so stressful when everyone is sick of it but nothing happens! I hate office politics.
When I tell you I have seen this SO many times and I don't get it at all. But one thing I did learn early on was that you do have to play the office politics somewhat.
