Will relocate from Indianapolis —> Seattle in 2 months. I need to buy a car. Should I get one in IN (could be cheaper but need to ship) OR wait after I move? 🧐

Whatever’s easier for you… we went through this when we moved from NJ to TX… whether it made sense to ship the car or drive it… but being that your purchasing, I think the sales tax is 6.8% in WA vs 7.0% in IN… if that makes a difference… shipping our BMW 330 a few years ago it was $960, with a 7 day time horizon… so buying in IN costs you more in taxes plus shipping, plus registration transfer and licensing in WA…

I’d say, if you get a good deal, it could be worth it… but otherwise, I’d just buy when I got there… it’s cleaner…

Thank you for the numbers and your experience!! Do you think most car shipping service are risk free?

Shipped a number of cars—ensure they are insured and bonded. It’s very common, so don’t stress.

So I got invited to do an on-site interview and as part of it, the hiring manager wants me to present some of the chemistry I'm currently working on. The problem is all my work has been government contracted and hasn't been published, so due to confidentiality I can't present any complete schemes or specific structures. Any tips on how to ace this presentation?

Im a third year and my current firm isn't bad and I'm pretty comfortable here. Im satisfied most of the time. There is one firm I've been keeping my eyes on because of its similarities to where I currently am (nice people, similar hours, culture).

Im a bit burned out now and I would love to take a long break. I'm hoping I can take a break (2 months) between the transition but is this a good reason to move though? Would you move in my situation? Im sure there will be a signing bonus.

I just had a colleague ask me my opinion on a few cars since she’s buying her daughter’s first car. Went through a few brands trying to get a sense of where her mind was, and as soon as I mentioned VW she said “oh, they’re owned by Mercedes and we had bad experiences with Mercedes years ago.”

What comically incorrect car things have your coworkers said to you about cars?

911 Carrera S vs GTS

I really want to do a low key spec on my next car but it’s almost impossible to spec the GTS without black wheels/accents turning it into a more aggressive looking car.

Thoughts on if the GTS in a 7 speed is more engaging than the S enough to justify the compromise in wheel selection?
