Has anyone ever been asked to stay beyond what they’ve said will be their last day when they give notice? Gave 2 weeks notice yesterday and am now being pressured to stay until one deal I’m on closes (which could slip past the end of next week, which is what I’ve said was my last day).

I’m 10000% with P1.

Nah it’s not your problem any more.

This seems more like a them problem and not a you problem so I'd just say no

They can certainly ask and you can certainly say no. That said, know a friend who gave one months’ notice because of that situation.

This is all you need to say.

The firm asked me to potentially stay another week so I can close out a matter. Said I wouldn’t be bothered about anything else. I billed 1 hour that week and was traveling.

funny

Yikes! Agree with VP1. On my last day of. Y small firm I had the partner ask me if they could do anything to convince me to stay —there wasn’t. They always want to squeeze more work out of you since you’re already trained and know the cases. They’re going to replace you anyway so try to maintain your firm last day if that’s what you want to do. Good luck with your new opportunity!

Recent lateral junior associate in brand new practice where I'm the only associate. I'm probably going to bill 1,500 hours max this year due to being very slow and taking time off for a delayed honeymoon which I disclosed during my interview process. I have been told my work product is good, I don't turn anything down, I participate in non-billable work, I'm responsive and I always let people know I'm available to help. Do I need to be worried about getting fired for low hours?

I’m in a tough spot—still waiting for conflicts to clear and out of the blue, a partner reached out regarding a project that they’ve staffed me on. They want my availability to begin working on the matter next week…how do I handle this? I haven’t given notice, but expect to do so soon…I don’t think it’s prudent to start a new matter esp. since I know I’m leaving…but I can’t turn down work with a straight face (especially because my hours are in “checked out” mode)…

1st yr at a nyc v50 firm doing general transactional work. I know the lateral market for transactional lawyers is hot but not as hot for juniors. I just want a change of scenery because my current firm is bleeding good associates / not giving great training imo / and just seems small. Would lateralling this early feasible? Would it look bad on my resume?
