So I got invited to do an on-site interview and as part of it, the hiring manager wants me to present some of the chemistry I'm currently working on. The problem is all my work has been government contracted and hasn't been published, so due to confidentiality I can't present any complete schemes or specific structures. Any tips on how to ace this presentation?

I had that before in 2019, my work was not published yet, I discussed with my PI about the presentation (lucky my PI very supportive ) . my PI told me to tell the hiring manager that its confidential info , and I still can show the result but will hide the disease or cell line or any drugs/construct that I was using (and luckily the hiring manager also nice and understand ) so I presented. Example: I was working on a rare disease so I just marked as disease A , give an intro about the disease, and the diagnosis is broad so even we tell they still not sure what exactly this disease is, and labels the drug as drug #1 or #2, you can share the method how you get the data. The most important thing is how deep we understand the results, and future step to push the project move forward. Yeah and I able to switched from academia to industry 🤓 and my paper out after I left (luckily “again” I able to keep my first author credit lol ) so good luck 🍀

Do you have any non-confidential work completed? Maybe you can talk about other possible ideas without giving too many details so that you don't give away too much information without being hired.

A good option is to show in your profiles that you collaborate with government departments, this is taken very seriously because if you work with the government is because you do it very well.

I am a mechanical engineer and from time to time I provide support to government departments, government jobs are usually classified, but just by saying that you work with the government companies take it very seriously, it shows that you are a trusted professional.

I am a mathematician, and I don't know in your field but after a while, the government tends to absorb all your time, thanks to that I haven't had to look for a job with private companies.

Has anyone left healthcare and is now really happy? I’m an MSN, RN with 12 years hospital experience. I’m burned out and tired of making crap pay. I have an opportunity outside of healthcare that would pay more and challenge me in new ways that I haven’t experienced before. It’s a total shift that would really heal my work-life balance, job satisfaction and budget. My only fear is that I would not be using the license and degree that I worked so hard for. I would appreciate any input!!!!

Biz owners/entrepreneurs: Any tips on how to answer questions where the interviewer would want to know why I’d want to work for a company if I have my own. I’d want to reassure them that I have no intentions of leaving their company for mine or that there wouldn’t be competing priorities between us. I have a small photography biz. When this came up in an interview how did you address it? On my resume it does show that I’m currently a photographer w/ my own biz. I was selected for an interview.

I’ve been with my current company for a little over 5 years now and since the start of the pandemic have been WFH. I absolutely love WFH and have always wanted a position in which I could WFH. There is talk of bringing everyone back to the office full time and that’s not what I would like to happen. I’ve been searching for a new position in which it would be a remote role. My current company also said I am maxed out in term of what they are willing to pay salary wise.
