Would love some feedback on my portfolio! Trying to move from the brand side to the agency side and have only been getting rejection letters or no response at all. My role on the brand side was equivalent to a Senior Copywriter or ACD but I'm open to a lower Copywriter role to get my foot in the door.

I attended an interview and did assignment for Multimedia designer role 15 days ago fo BMC team at EY GDS, still not heard back, interview was positive and assignment is also good. HR's don't reply to email and don't pick calls, should I keep hope or forgot it? I'm just asking for feedback because I have put 6 hours hard work in to assignment.

Fuk it. I’d hire you. I’m not sure what these a-holes want. It’s way better than lots of other stuff out there. Think about leap-frogging the clueless recruiter. Find the CD or CCO and email them directly. If you want advice on your book, think about just getting rid of anything that feels like a corporate buzzword. Also, this industry is way more about who you know than what you know. GL
Thank you for the encouragement and the advice! I really appreciate it.

I think the reason you might not be making it past the initial recruiter stage is your book is light on conceptual thinking. The Quay work is well produced and there are nuggets of ideas there. But, it leans more fashion, which is typically just about pretty pictures and people. So, suggestions.
1. Reduce the number of Quay campaigns to your top three or four. Ideally, they’d also have the most conceptual work.
2. Add a spec campaign that shows your conceptual chops.
3. If you really are willing to take a mid-level position, just have your book say “copywriter” in the header.
4. Consider applying to agencies that focus on fashion, or traditional advertising agencies that have beauty clients.
Thank you so much! This is really helpful. I so appreciate you taking the time to do that.
Honestly, there’s some good stuff in there. I wouldn’t short-change yourself. I think what might be helpful is to do an overhaul of your book in terms of how the ideas are presented.
This might be a nitpick but, I didn’t love all the “I created a global 360 campaign” or the other “I’s.” I’m sure you wrote it that way to make your role clear. But it takes a village and it made me feel like you might not be as collaborative. And you have the credits below of who did what. Also maybe it’s just me, but I assume anything in your book you wrote and were truly behind the thinking. Either way, I would rewrite this stuff and use all that real estate to really explain the thinking.
Never been in-house but even if it was as simple as the media buy was already there, you pitched a few scripts and one went through, lie to me. Make me feel like you started with a brilliant insight or tension in the world, and then you blew that up into your amazing executions.
I think you have it all there, agencies are just used to talking to ourselves and presentation is everything. Reach out if you have any more questions!
Thank you so so much! This is really helpful. I will make those updates. I really appreciate it.
All your work is great you may just want to reframe the write ups and make it more about why you did stuff “we needed to boost xyz so we launched xyz that did xyz” vs what you have now “I created a video, poster, social post under campaign xyz” it makes it feel more conceptual vs executional and will make you seem more senior as well.
Great advice. Thank you!
Agree with all the advice here, especially reaching out to CDs. Ask them to give you feedback on your portfolio, especially if you do work on a spec campaign.
Thank you!
Are you familiar with a wide range of industries? Do you have experience creating content for niche clients?
I am and yes I do, however most of the content I’ve created for niche clients or clients in other industries (medical, nutrition, auto, interior design, art, etc) are more like emails, blogs, brand stories, etc - not larger commercials or campaigns.
