You know, it's kind of a bummer that you find the candidates for your company's team by rummaging through a million applications, spend time building a rapport with them and understanding them, and then once they're onboarded, you barely see or interact with them again. I would really like to know how they are progressing or even just liking things, but I don't get the opportunity to do that. How does it go for you?

I totally get what you mean. After all that effort building relationships during hiring, it’s a bit sad not to keep up with new team members as much as I’d like. I try to check in now and then, or rely on feedback from their managers, but regular follow-ups just don’t happen as often as I wish.

that's really nice of you, im sure the new members appreciate it!

I almost always hire people I’ll be directly working with, so not experiencing that. Is that not the norm for most others here?

It's funny that you mention this because I was just thinking about how I wish I could interact with my own HR contacts ( when I get hired at a new company) beyond the interview process

Really? You’re a lot more personable than I am. Lol. I like my job and getting to know candidates but once they’re hired, I don’t want to think about them anymore.

I have a policy to do multiple check-ins during the first 90 days of employment. But honestly, after that my contact with them diminishes

I am a fourth year attorney and am on track to be partner of a small but well established ID firm in 2-3 years. Our bread and butter is ID but I have the freedom to take on any matters I like.

I do not want to be doing ID forever but I really don’t know what comes next. What other similar but more advanced (and better paying) fields of defense litigation are out there? Is the next type of civil defense litigation just going out and being hired by private companies?

I need some good career-development or finance-related books, anyone got any recs?
