I’ve applied to AE and AM positions at Amazon and Uber but I can never seem to get past the 1st interview. I have 7yrs sales experience and consistently top3 AM, I sell automotive chemicals and provide business development consolation. I used to have the ability to see a breakdown of past sales, but my company took that away (although I was able to save 2019,2020,&2021 numbers). Any advice on how to get past the 1st interview with hiring manager?
@other BD folks at Deloitte KPMG EY PwC - how technical are you? I got brought in to sell a tech heavy solution that combines Red Hat, Salesforce, Service Now and I feel like I’m WAY out of my depth. I’m hitting numbers now but still have a heavy dose of imposter syndrome.
Any tips on how to get more technical? Or how to manage as a non-technical person in a very technical space??

The best sales experience I ever had was when I was buying a car. The salesman was so helpful and didn't try to pressure me into buying anything I didn't want. He let me take my time and answered all of my questions, and I ended up getting a great deal on the car.
The worst sales experience I've ever had was when I was buying a TV. The salesman was really pushy and tried to pressure me into buying a more expensive TV than I wanted. He wouldn't take no for an answer and ended up wasting my time by making me look at TVs that I didn't want.
Honestly, I've had some really rude clients that made me lose faith and confidence in myself...especially in the early years
This happened to me as well. People really can be so cruel for no reason at all.
I went furniture shopping while hugely pregnant. The second me and my husband walked through the door, there was a salesperson ON US. She literally followed us around the entire store (which is huge), even though we told her multiple times that we were just browsing and that we'd flag her down if we had questions or decided to buy something. I was so irritated (partly due to hormones) that we ended up just leaving. The next store we went to, a salesperson asked us if we needed help, we told him the same as we'd told the girl at the previous store. He handed us his business card and said let me know if/when you need me. I so appreciated his hands-off and respectful approach that we ended up going back a few days later, specifically when we knew he'd be working and bought all of our furniture from him so he could get the commission. A tale of two sales experiences in one night. LOL
I have had sales people be straight-up rude and/or lie about their products and pricing. I personally took those experiences to heart and very much try to be straightforward and consultative, not gimmicky.
