While I know it hurts to feel excluded, trust me when I say that offsites are the 9th ring of hell
:( *hugs* you just haven’t found the right people who appreciate you and see you. I felt that way at my ex company (a very good one). I didn’t feel truly valued or liked by others until I left and met really awesome people. And I internalized that neglect and subconsciously felt I deserved it. It turns out I did not. You don’t either.
Shooting is the ONLY “off-site” that’s enjoyable. Anything else is a waste of much needed personal time. Count your blessings.
Ugh. I feel for you. Hope you find a place that sees and values you. It exists, you just have to find it.
Joan, is that you?
LOLLL may as well be. I share the same sentiment (obviously you know that)
Sounds like my dream job lol, zero offsites

You don’t know how lucky you are. You’re not missing out on anything. Trust me.

25 years? I say this with respect and not an intent of malice. After 11 years, your job sees you as someone with little to no potential. They value you for the work that you’re doing, but unless you’re actively showing initiative and a comprehension of how the business running and can offer ideas for improvement, they are not going to think of you as having potential to grow within the organization. You’re comfortable and they’re comfortable with you in your current role so you’re either giving too much of yourself and expecting too much in return, or they’re taking advantage of you. Either way you have a choice. You can try to get ahead in that organization, or you can leave. Knowing your self worth is the greatest gift you can give it to yourself.
5 months into my job my birthday came and went and I thought, they don’t do birthdays around here, cool cool, nbd. Then a month later they went all out and got a cake, did a little cake time at lunch hour, a card signed by everyone (including me) for our copywriter. She started the same day as me. 🥲
Every trade show, every conference, I am regularly excluded, and not even cleared to go to any that are within my skill set and industry, except for one, after working there for 8 years. But since then if I want to go again I have to pay for it myself. I’m asked to rush to get images of whatever needed for launches and print outs completed to make it to print for said shows and events to showcase our items in the best light, and yet never given an opportunity to see my work at one irl, or given a copy of the print items just to see how it all came out. 😞
Ask for these things!
Bug them. Every time. Ask what you need to do to get these things to happen.
Re your birthday, that’s crappy and inconsiderate. Is there someone specific who organizes that stuff? Maybe you could volunteer to put together a list so that everyone gets included? One of the companies I worked for had a monthly birthday celebration so everyone got included.
