I have tried desks, no desks, tables, bean bags, sitting on the floor...I find if you have a good classroom climate all are possible, however if you don't have a good classroom climate none of it is possible.
Very well said. It really comes down to how the kids feel in your room, or the climate, like you said. Everything else just kind of falls into place!
I firmly believe that traditional desks and seating arrangements are outdated. In my previous district, we focused on flexible seating options for grades four through eight, and eventually second and third, which go beyond the standard setup. We have chairs of varying heights, stools, and even rocking seating. Tables can be easily moved and reconfigured, creating versatile arrangements that work seamlessly together—much like pieces of a puzzle. The kids truly thrived with this flexible seating furniture, and it proved to be an excellent choice for nearly all of them.
I have tables and love them but because I have so many in class
I love tables! But when the kids are hyper and have a hard time focusing when seated near each other it give me a migraine 😖
