A couple of years ago I posted here that I was moving to India for 1.5 years but my husband was staying in US. I got a wide range of responses here and in real life. Update: I did my 1.5 years in India, loved it, am back home with my husband, and love it. What an adventure!

Why did you choose to live separately? Did you miss him?

My husband and I lived on opposite coasts for 17 months for his job. We knew it was temporary and put a limit of 18 months on it. It was fine when it was going on because we missed each other but it felt like whenever we saw each other it was a date. That was in 2008 and 2009 and we had been married for three years. Still married. Now with four kids. Good for you!

Glad that it worked out well for you. I'm sure it was not an easy decision, but it sounds like it was a great opportunity and adventure. It probably helped knowing that it was a set timeframe that was relatively short in the big scheme of life.

Just curious, how often did you get to visit each other in person? Or did you go the entire 1.5 years without that? And is it correct to assume no kids involved, just you and your spouse?

Baker Tilly, what happened to your comment? I’m ready to answer your questions! 🤣

So strange, I don’t see it (only in my notifications).

It felt like an impossible decision but I knew we could make it work. He visited me, I visited home, and we met in the middle a couple of times.
