A director asked if I want to lead the next launch, but the product has already slipped twice and engineering is clearly tired of last minute scope changes. It would help my visibility, but it also feels like stepping into something messy on purpose. Would you take a project like that if you knew it might go sideways?

If you're good do it.
You can also align expectations and make people coming forward with their concerns early with the reason it slipped already and that's a shared fault.

I would reckon this role requires someone to ask questions no one has asked before (take a step back before committing to launch date), ask stupid questions and allow others maybe in private to ask stupid questions. You need to be able to reduce uncertainty to navigate uncertainty.

It's a very interesting challenge. Absolutely go for it if you have the leadership skill.

Well… you have the opportunity to change that. Scope change just seems like you need to line with leadership and set expectations.

I’m trying to pivot to PM after >3 years in finance and I have a 2nd round interview with CPO this week. Company has 3.7 on Glassdoor with complaints about CEO, “bro-y” culture, and hard to wfh. It’s a data analytics company with 5 PMs, was bought by a PE firm this year, and has a new (female) CEO as of Oct. Role is 50/50 hybrid, pays well vs what I make, and most importantly would be a foot in the door to PM. Is this a good place to be for PM? What else do I need to find out to know for sure?

A colleague told me today that Google separates Product Manager and Product Owner as two separate roles.
