Every company operates differently in product management but what I’ve seen so far, is that F500 companies have a separate team/dept responsible for strategy. Product management is primarily dedicated to the design of the product/software. It’s like product marketing is also a separate function. There are 3 dimensions in PM: Strategic, Technical and Marketing.
As you get more senior you become more strategic at most companies. But generally a company that has both PM and PO roles will split strategy/business building and tech management.
