A recruiter contacted me about a reinsurance role that would bump me up to AVP and pay around $125K (I’m currently at $98K). It feels like the kind of opportunity that only comes around once or twice in a career. But the catch is it’s across the country, and my partner has roots here and isn’t thrilled about uprooting. I feel stuck between wanting to prioritize my growth and not wanting to damage my relationship. If you were in my shoes, how would you balance career ambition against personal commitments?

Honestly, if your partner won’t support your career goals, that’s a red flag. Big moves are part of professional growth. You can always move back later, but you may not get this chance again.

One of your roommates (and a close friend that you’ve known for years) has a flight to catch. He has a suitcase, a duffle bag (no wheels), and a backpack. In order for him to get to the airport would you:

A) offer to drive him to the airport that’s about .5 miles away (5 minute drive)

B) tell him to order an Uber since you know his work would pay for it

C) tell him to not be lazy and walk half a mile to the nearest public transportation stop, with all that luggage, and take public transit

I still get really nervous before doing telehealth video calls! I'm never this way face to face.
