Yes it will be wise to discuss it with your manager/supervisor with whom you have good terms. They can also guide you further.
And it is always good to discuss the reason you are leaving the org so that they can provide valuableInputs on the next steps.
It is your responsibility to let your manager know that you have such plans.
If you are leaving cos of remuneration, growth etc usually the managers can direct you accordingly
