What’s it like at Camp J these days?
Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?
Welp, see yeah later KFC!

We were running late.
The pitch was at 9 a.m. sharp, and the team was already on edge. But just outside the client’s office, we saw a man sitting on the curb. His name was Peter. His shoes were worn, his backpack was falling apart l, but his handshake was firm, and his laugh was genuine.
We stopped. We listened. We grabbed him a coffee. For a moment, we weren’t accounts people, or creatives, or strategists, we were just humans connecting with another human.
By the time we got upstairs, the receptionist said the meeting had ended and we had to leave. We thought we’d lost it all.
But the next day, our phone rang. They wanted us back.
When we arrived at the boardroom, the CEO walked in. To our shock, it was Peter. The man from the street. He looked at us and said:
“You cared about me when I wasn’t in a suit. That’s why you’ll have my business.”
We won the account. And then we celebrated with Peter. Hard. I’m talking champagne, confetti, hookers, and enough cocaine to fuel a midsized agency.
Since then, Peter has been arrested three separate times. Once for insider trading, once for public intoxication, and once for trying to expense “networking cake” on the company card. Somehow, each arrest only made him stronger than before and we’re still their agency today.
this is the best thing I’ve seen on Fishbowl. full stop. the bowl needs success stories like this, not doom and gloom. PS Peter would have added some good background texture in that lame red people group Rogers dancing 💃🏾 🕺 spot.
This one time I said I was excited for the opportunity and that they had a great brand.
My boss almost gifted the potential clients luxury purses because "women love a purse".

Sat in a meeting wearing a beaver costume. For a US client.
Waived a years worth of agency fees to win the integrated pitch
Did mcgarrybowen start this trend? I feel like I remember that being their thing. A year of fee free work, but I think it was in lieu of a pitch.
Lots of man on the street interviews
I worked at a place where we gave prospects iPads with our presentation loaded on them. lol, totally NOT bribery.
