After a rejuvenating annual leave, I'm stepping back into the office today with a mix of excitement and hesitation. The break helped me recharge, but now I face a mountain of emails and tasks! How do you find your rhythm again after a break?

It can seem a little hectic the minute your back, but to start with I make sure I have no plans on my first day back so I can go through my emails and work out what’s a priority. This helps me to break down what needs sorting at what urgency.

I've come in and there's so much urgent stuff to do. I think I've done as much as I can while waiting on there people to do their part. Having a very stressful day.

Glad you had some well deserved time off to enjoy life and step away from the madness! When I return from break I always keep the same routine. Grab a notebook, listen to voicemails, check emails, and jot down a list in my notebook what order to tackle each task in. Something about having it written down in front of my helps me stay on track and crossing one thing off at a time is oddly satisfying.

I am very much a list maker too! I've literally come back to a desk full of paperwork and emails labled urgent 😫

I always ease in by spending the first hour just getting organised-emails, to-do list, coffee. No pressure to be super productive right away. That first day back is more about resetting my brain than smashing tasks. How's your inbox looking?

I came in an hour early for that exact reason. Inbox wasn't too bad but had some urgen ones in there.

Welcome back! That post-vacation inbox is so brutal. I usually ease in by tackling a few quick wins first, it helps build momentum. Then I block out time for the bigger stuff. Give yourself some grace as you find your rhythm again!

Thank you! I'm soon back in the swing of things. Second day back and it's Friday so that helps.

Life / Career Advice: I applied to medical school since my MCAT score was set to expire, ended up getting into 1 program. I also have an opp to join a well funded/well established Healthtech Startup (6 figure salary w/ equity + benefits) as a BD professional. I enjoy the business side of things and am unsure if I would end up practicing Medicine (medicine is also a long arduous path). At the same time, having an MD holds a lot of clout/authority in HC. Any thoughts on what I should do?

How much actual court experience should a junior litigator expect to get in the first year? I've been my firm 6 months as a civil litigator not and have yet to go to a hearing. There have been a few (all relatively minor) but each time the partner tells me it's not important enough for me to attend. As a junior, I feel like I need to learn and no hearing is to minor. How else am I supposed to learn?
