Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

Whenever people are involved there will be politics.
I just said something very similar on another post wondering about if leadership is ever truly aligned!

Corporate America is HUGE on politics. I’ve worked in govt, capital markets, banking, and consulting in my career. Corporate is the WORST. Leadership has often been there a LONG time, lacks a ton of knowledge on how practices have changed over time, and promotes who they like over who does well (because most of the time they don’t really know who is good, innovative, etc )
We are not exempt from communicating impactfully and with purpose just because we can build products. Politics is often a good thing; we don’t necessarily want our best analytics people to get promoted. We want people who, through superior understanding of their craft, can stand up program management, empower people, and fuel development in line with the strategy.
