I've been looking at chemcollective.org lately. They have virtual labs where students can collect data using standard lab procedures, like using a weighing tray to measure masses. I need to get more familiar with it, but it seems like it could be do-able with enough practice.

Pivot is awesome!

We started using PIVOT this year. My team really likes it.

What holiday party did you get?
Anyone living close to an office, got a holiday party with food and drinks, and the venue started open for them until around midnight. Our remote workers got a one hour party w a DJ and trivia that let you win gift cards. Yeah it was nice to win a gift card but I found it lame in comparison to hanging out with my team in real life.

It is that time in life for me to buy new socks - not work socks, just every day socks. I prefer low / no show. Don't want to break my bank but also want socks that'll last.

Recommendations appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

I finally put my Snowflake on a leather strap. I'm smitten and felt the need to share with folks who would appreciate!

I always intended to wear with a leather strap but it took me far too long to get one. Although I did like the bracelet a lot more than I thought I would. The bracelet seems to be a constant knock on GS but I didn't find anything wrong with it. At least this model.

Chemistry labs for middle school? Especially metals and salts

For students who don't fit the traditional Chem profile, we offer Chemistry in the Community (ChemComm) from the American Chemical Society. The SI is wanting to "reevaluate" our course offerings and make sure we have "the right class" going forward. So now I'm on a committee. Does anyone have any recommendations for entry-level Chem classes? Or do you use Chem Comm and recommend sticking with it? (we've had it for 20 years, but its my first year teaching it due to a retirement).

I have a question about energy levels and electrons. I teach 10th grade. What is more appropriate: saying the 3rd energy level can fit 8 or 18?? Technically if you include the d orbital it’s 18 correct? But then when you draw potassium you only put 8 on the 3rd energy level and 1 on the 4th….. after 10 years of teaching I STILL second guess myself. Thanks!!

Has anyone attempted lab “kits”? A small set of materials you send home with a kid to do a lab at home?
