For students who don't fit the traditional Chem profile, we offer Chemistry in the Community (ChemComm) from the American Chemical Society. The SI is wanting to "reevaluate" our course offerings and make sure we have "the right class" going forward. So now I'm on a committee. Does anyone have any recommendations for entry-level Chem classes? Or do you use Chem Comm and recommend sticking with it? (we've had it for 20 years, but its my first year teaching it due to a retirement).

Looking for guidance. I’ve been in people manager roles (in director/senior leader capacity) for the last 5 years now, and prior to that I was a “rockstar” Project Manager. I’ve worked really hard to get to the position I’m in today, but I’ve been recently asked to move from my current role to a senior IC role to take on a highly visible Program for the company, with some very senior stakeholders. I have a question about energy levels and electrons. I teach 10th grade. What is more appropriate: saying the 3rd energy level can fit 8 or 18?? Technically if you include the d orbital it’s 18 correct? But then when you draw potassium you only put 8 on the 3rd energy level and 1 on the 4th….. after 10 years of teaching I STILL second guess myself. Thanks!!
