Any hobby suggestions that do not involve gadgets and devices? Looking for other ways to keep me entertained while on base.

Hi, I really enjoy wood carving, it cost a little bit maybe $30-$40 to get a good carving set or just get a simple carving knife to start out, tons of YouTube videos out there for learning how…

One way to keep entertained while on base is to take up a craft. You could try knitting, crocheting, or even sewing! I tried knitting for the first time a few years ago, and I was surprised by how therapeutic it was. It's a great way to stay occupied and relax at the same time. Another option is to take up a sport or activity like running, yoga, or swimming. There are a lot of ways to stay active and entertained without relying on gadgets and devices.

Reading, crosswords, puzzles, chess--if you're looking for indoor activities. If you're looking for outdoor activities, yoga, walking/running, slack lining (requires one piece of equipment but is so fun)!

I assume you mean beyond exercise, right? I think cooking (provided that you have the basics) is an incredible hobby for someone on base! A great way to hone a valuable life skill that you'll take home with you!

Assuming that by no gadgets you mean either inexpensive and/or easy to move with. Maybe try: painting (either canvas or model miniatures), learn piano or another language. You could also try volunteering at a local veteran’s home for the old guys who served before us.

I like doing needlepoint/hand embroidery. You can buy kits online for $10-20 and have instructions for everything

I’d recommend exploring education/training that sets you up for a career after the military. See what continuing education has that interests you. College isn’t the only choice. The “trades” like plumbers, electricians etc make a decent living and help build structures that outlive them. Just a thought. I assume you have already checked out MWR.

I’m a military history buff, with a lot of family history

I do scale modeling on the side. Started with the B-17f
That my grandfather flew in in WWII. Talking with family a lot made connections to other family members
Of other veterans.

And from there I researched other planes like the BF-109. And built models of them.

I am an active SWCC , and work with Navy helos a lot
And made a model of the MH-60s. That I work on all the time.

Great hobby.

You could always continue your education through online education

Check to see if your base has a hobby shop for woodworking. It’s a cheap, hourly, way to get into a really cool hobby and the old vets that run the shops are always excited to offer advice.

Just don’t get too good and become your unit’s going-away-gift guy! Great money but you’ll be busy.

Hi everyone, I have a question. I am currently in the middle on of an interview process, where I am quite confident that I will get the job... but I want to work for another company that has contacted me 1 week ago to interview but hasn't scheduled the interview yet....

Meaning that their interview process is probably going to take longer... how should I reach out to the company and properly let them know my situation?

Hi everyone! I’m currently open to a new role after working for 5 years at my agency. Most of my work at the agency has involved management, community engagement, data analysis, communications, and visual design.
