*#AThousandThankYous to the front line workers*
Our nation saw a disheartening surge in covid cases. Amidst these tough and painful times, the doctors, nurses, and hospital staff continue to work day in and day out for our safety, our lives.
Calling you to join hands, as we raise funds to show them a token of gratitude with a small care package.

Somebody say layoffs?

Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.
https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491
My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.

People dont go to work at SpaceX for WL balance.
SpaceX work life is both intense and rewarding. Each program has its benefits and challenges.
Falcon: Mature business unit. Before 2021, we did 25 or fewer launches per year. Since then, we went from 30 (2021) to 60 (2022) to almost 100 (2023) to almost 150 (2024). This year, we're aiming for just under 200. But that growth of launches comes from a lot of teams working extremely hard. We lost a few boosters to silly mistakes as well, but we take all of it as learning lessons.
Dragon: This is both cargo and crew sales. Cargo is okay and mostly government contracts. Crew sales is much harder and the program is trying to figure itself out.
Starship: Lots of pressure here. Lots of resources and "all hands on deck" mentality because this is the next big thing. This also means we're investing a lot in the Starbase area and insane amount of growth for the program. The culture is definitely to work hard and make this a very successful program.
Starlink: 9000+ sats launched. 6700+ still active. We make sats in house. Lots of work needed across many teams. And we make the terminals in house. We are trying to be a global ISP and telco. Direct to Cell is very much in its infancy and the opportunity there is significant.
Think of SpaceX what you will. But nothing gets done without hard work (think Amazon during AWS or Alexa?). The environment is "toxic" for those who don't know what they're doing or are slow. A lot of consultants can succeed here because they're used to the pace (think... Being frustrated waiting 3 days for client to give you data).
Our teams are run very lean. Blue Origin has 10k workforce while the ENTIRETY of SpaceX has ~13k. They have teams of 10+ for our 1-2 people. You can interpret that as SpaceX being severely understaffed or Blue Origin being overstaffed... It doesn't matter. With lean teams, it's not necessary that it leads to burn out. We just have to make more pointed choices on where to focus and what to work on. If it isn't extremely critical, then maybe it can wait. If it is and it's not in my bandwidth, then we'll hire (internally or externally).
I can't speak to specific teams or managers and experiences that are bad. There will always be unpleasant experiences anywhere. But the SpaceX culture is to just be a little smart, very focused, and extremely driven.
If you can't set your own boundaries between work and life that's on you. If you want to just rest and vest, go be a PM at Google. If you want to be part of something meaningful, go do what gives you meaning.
I'm happy to chat more if you want to DM me or ask here. I come from B4 consulting background in D&A. I took a 30% cash comp paycut to come here, but riding the equity has been phenomenal.
We've decommissioned them over time. We burn up the older sats for the newer versions and will only continue to do so in larger scale.

There is no work-life balance
That being said, you get stock comp, rewarded for creativity and the potential for very quick advancement if you perform exceptionally which are all uncommon in the aerospace industry.
Rising Star
What I mean by "creativity"
At old school aerospace companies, if you propose new ways of doing things, senior engineers usually push back "that's not how we did it before" and getting your new idea approved typically takes a fight that is not necessarily beneficial to the person pursuing it
At Elon's companies, according to Elon, if you enter a performance review and don't have an example of a new way of doing things that you at least attempted, you might get pushed out.
I don't know how rigorously that's implemented in practice, but it's definitely much more enjoyable working in an environment that lets you do new things and people don't fight back against progress.
Only place I’ve ever been to where staff work harder than consultants.
Never worked at LEK D1. They may be the exception 😁
Work life integration.
I have a friend at SpaceX. Works extremely hard, high turnover, and very little WLB. That said, he describes the work as very interesting. My friend has had direct interactions with Elon Musk and has flown on his private jet.
Definitely not for everyone, but if you want to be working on truly cutting edge stuff, it seems to be the place to be.
yeah but what does the friend do
Great resume builder and im sure after to work your a$$ off you could jump to of anywhere
If you're lazy just say it LMAO. You don't do what SpaceX does by being lazy.
Hi there
Working at SpaceX is out of this world!
Can I have the friends email address for a referral 😂
