Never really got in to the O/U side of shotguns. I have a pair of Ithaca bottom eject pump models that I've had for 40 years. Far easier to carry out spent shells while bird hunting when they land at your feet.
OP. I have a pair. 20 gauge and a 12 gauge. First one was purchased for the weight. I used in for bird hunting in western KS as a kid. When the field is a mile long, weight starts to be a factor. My wife got the 12 gauge for me as a Christmas present a few years ago
Don’t know a lot about O/U market as I do not now own one but I have hunted with a 12 gauge O/U my grandfather has and it is heavy to walk in fields with. I am partial to the Remington 870 20 I have. Pretty cheap in comparison to other hunting shotguns but solid gun that is very lightweight.
I have the Beretta Silver Pigeon and I adore it. Of all the firearms I practice with, shotguns are my favorite. Semi-auto shotguns are great, and for hunting and sport it is definitely overkill. Pumps will do the job, but for me personally, I enjoy the mechanical intricacy that goes into an over/under or side by side, and the historic craftsmanship that went into it.
Agreed on the mechanical intricacy note. I have a lot of semi-autos, but there’s something about my O/U that just feels really good. The 12 gauge O/U I have is a Browning Cynergy CX. I’d love to have the same gun in 20, but I’ve found none used. I haven’t been able to find a beretta in my price range either, but that one is definitely on the list as well. I may just have to increase my price range I guess. Dove season starts in September so I have time. Thanks for the info!
Never been a big O/U guy, tried a couple fancy benellis but I shoot better with my old Winchester 21 SBS
