We offer Uber credits and the employee has to use it if they are found drinking more than one drink
This is a great policy, my only question is how does one monitor how many drinks someone has had, if they aren't obviously tipsy?
We try to limit alcohol at company events. It turns into too much of a liability. Limiting it seems to work well.
Commenting, to follow along the thread.
Treat your employees like adults and hold them accountable. Don’t let them drive drunk so call them an Uber/Lyft. But someone should have a convo with this person the next working day to let them know that they made a poor choice to get too drunk at a company sponsored event. Set expectations that we expect better judgment next time around. If it happens again, you need to discuss this with legal counsel as it maybe an addiction problem and can be a protected under certain employee laws (depending if they also tell you they have a drinking problem). Ultimately, don’t be scared to have authentic conversations with employees as long as your mindful of legal obligations of what a company should and should not ask.
PS: next time, you can definitely solve for this if you provide Uber and Lyft credits (easiest way). No need to provide too much restrictions on this. Nor should anyone keep track of how many drinks employees get. Keep it simple - If you’ve RSVP’d to the party, you get taxi service credits to your home or hotel.
